Your weekly update to my reading status: still in a “slump”.

We’re almost two months into the new year and if you’ve read any of my blog posts then you know I’m in a bit of a reading slump. But not the usual reading slump which is what inspired this short post and Urban Dictionary gives the best meaning of all freaking time.

reading slump: a readers worst nightmare.

not being able to pick up a book and read because you just can’t, you just can’t read.

Which makes me question if I’m really in a reading slump or not. Why? I’ve read 14 books so far in the new year and only 1 of them was a new book and rated with 4 stars Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen, then comes Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones with 3 stars and then it’s downhill from there. Shadowsong was the Wintersong sequel but it felt like a totally different book to me, I re-read City of Bones and Dark Lover which I hadn’t re-read in years, StillTarnished CrownAnd I Darken and Now I Rise ahead of Bright We Burn release and the Gabriel’s Inferno series. The Oddling Prince by Nancy Springer, Lake + Manning by Jessica Hawkins, are the latest books I read and rated with 1 and 2 stars. [links will take you to the GR reviews]

So there, see what I mean? 14 books is not a slump, I’ve re-read and loved 9 old books and 1 new one, that’s most definitely not a reading slump for me. I’ve had reading slumps before and I couldn’t even read a single page from an old favorite, this clearly doesn’t apply here. I’ve talked about things I do when I’m in a reading slump and I’m only re-reading favorites for now and doiing some minor clean up from my TBR, books I won’t be reading.

Honestly though, I’ve just read some really bad new books so far, back to back with breaks of old loved ones in between. And the sad part is that I have two more books [Sky in the Deep and Lady Mary] on my kindle from NetGalley which I’ve already read the first chapters and I wasn’t that impressed. No, I won’t just an entire book from the first chapter but I have to admit it sucks when that happens. But I’m still waiting for a few ARCs (One Small Thing, The Chase, Long Shot and Cracked Kingdom) that will hopefully live up to my expectations.

Have you ever read really bad books back to back?
I’m going back to reading first chapters and old favorites now 😶

  1. I hate when I hit an almost-slump, reading bad books back to back. On top of it, that can cause a reading slump! I loved Lady Mary but I do think you might need to be in the mood to read it. I hope you find a great read soon!
