She was my nightmare. Every time I closed my eyes, I watched her fall into that inferno. Over and over, I failed to save her. I hadn’t been able to reach her, and the guilt only burned hotter over time. Four years later, I was the unreachable one. Heroes aren’t always saints. Sometimes, we’re nothing more than jaded sinners driven by sleepless nights and hearts full of darkness. And then I met her. She was a dreamer who managed to soothe my scars and heal my wounds. But, as the flames closed in around us, I feared I wasn’t the right man to save her. That is until I realized she was the one woman I’d burn the world down to protect.

3 stars!

“We can be beautifully flawed together.”

Singe starts with a bang. Literally. Jude is a cop off call who happens to answer a call and rushed to a burning house. What follows is a traumatic event from both main characters. Fast forward five years later, Jude and Rhion could not be in more different places in their lives. Jude is newly divorced but still caring for his ex wife’s daughter and Rhion is dealing with troubling situations. When Jude accepts a new job he comes face to face with Rhion and the two come close again.

This is not my first book by the author, I’ve read her previous work and I’ve loved it, I love her writing and the way she brings characters together and invokes emotions. But Singe felt a little flat for me despite its rough situations. Once Jude and Rhion reunite, everything happens so fast like the past five years have not kept them apart. No, I didn’t want them to struggle to get back together, or together at all since their situation was different back then but they meet, and that’s it. Yes, they are sweet and yes there were moments that I swooned but this is a huge book and there were so many topics to cover, maybe too many. Jude though, he’s a charming guy!

“Love rarely makes a man smile. Especially if said man is me and he has to deal with a crazy woman like you. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t burn the world down for you. Extinguish an entire species. And then place their ashes at your feet if it meant you’d smile. But I probably won’t be grinning while I do it.”

Despite his charm though he goes all alpha caveman on her and she turns into a puddle of emotions and love around him. I wanted something a little more natural, more fleshed out and a bit slower – nothing too angsty but I felt like a natural progression was rushed.

Plus, the book is kind of on the bigger side and I did put it down a lot and even read two other books in between because the two main characters were suddenly all loved up and it was barely half way in. I really don’t appreciate the alpha stuff anymore. Still, the author has a way of writing that is too good to miss and the secondary characters were amazing – I need a book about Johnson!
