I’ve seen this tag on several blogs (you can find the original here) and since no one tagged me, I’m tagging myself even if I don’t know why it’s called mid-year book freakout since I’m freaking out over books pretty much daily and when I don’t, I freak out in general so… yeah… anyway, I have to mention that it’s been a rough year for me, book wise, I have read more 2-star books than 5-star books and it’s already half way into the year. And yes I know that some bloggers haven’t had a 5-star book at all but I’m generous with my ratings and I need more 5-star books in my life, okay?! At this point I’m super disappointed at the books I’ve read and I seriously need the second half to bring me some epic reads. Now let’s get to it, shall we?

THE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR SO FAR

Hands down, Now I Rise. The highly anticipated sequel of And I Darken delivered an epic read that matched the awesomeness of the first one and set the bar higher for the next, so bring it on!

BEST SEQUEL OF THE YEAR SO FAR

Again, Now I Rise made my reading year and I don’t think there’s going to be a sequel that will satisfy me like this one did.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

Oh boy, this falls under the I’m so terrified to read these books because so far all my highly anticipated have pretty much failed category. That being said I have a long list of books I need to read yesterday and shame on me for not getting to them sooner.

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR AUTUMN / WINTER

*cries in book feels* If we’re lucky enough to finally have this precious book out by October then The Sea King is definitely one of them, it’s the sequel of The Winter King which please ignore the cover is AMAZEBALLS IM IN TEARS

They Both Die at the End: On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure and to live a lifetime in a single day.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR SO FAR

#DontWantToTalkAboutIt

BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE YEAR SO FAR

This was a classic I’ll read the first chapter and hope for the best and now I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve re-read this. Books like this one remind me why I love reading so much. That emotional connection with the characters and getting lost in the story.. amazing! Engaging, beautifully written with lovable characters and utterly captivating, I could not put it down, Caleb and Josh… I adore them!

He was the last one I saw before I closed my eyes at night and the first person I looked for when I opened them again in the morning.”

NEW FAVOURITE AUTHOR

Nic Stone is the debut author of Dear Martin which absolutely loved and I cannot wait for more books by the author, seriously just go ahead and add this to your TBR, preorder it, because this will me THE. NEXT. BEST. THING.

YOUR NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

Drew Forrester from Junkie and Nazira from Now I Rise.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

Even though I wasn’t expecting it to make me cry, The Smallest Thing had a scene that just killed me and it’s rare to find scenes like that one – not romantic but parental – so kudos to the author for it!

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

Ahhh Defy went right to my feels! This is such a lovely book, I was in the story 100%, I loved the characters and the way they loved each other. It made feel warm and fuzzy and it is pure joy wrapped up in forbidden romance with solid story telling.

Because that was the problem with society. It cared too much about who you fell in love with but never about why. The why matters.”

FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION YOU SAW THIS YEAR

I’ve seen a lot of movie/TV adaptations but here are those I really enjoyed.

Before I Fall // I hadn’t read the book so I didn’t know the story, just the summary of it and it was really good! I don’t know if it was faithful to the book but I really enjoyed it.

The Handmaid’s Tale // I just recently read the book and OMG seeing this on screen is just surreal.

Hemlock Grove // LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE

13 Reasons Why // Didn’t love it, don’t hate it, just really torn but it was a good adaptation. MY REVIEW

  1. This tag is so much fun. I did it last week and I love seeing everyone’s answers.
I see so many raves about And I Darken and Now I Rise and I’m interested but… to be honest, I pretty much reach for everything else before I reach for fantasy. I’m a total contemporary junkie and there are just sooo many of those I want to read that I rarely make time for fantasy.
When Dimple Met Rishi was really cute. I don’t see it making my faves at the end of the year but it was definitely sweet and adorable.
I just bought The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue last week. I’m liking the sound of it.
I’ve yet to read anything by L.J. Shen. I get the feeling I need to change that.
