This will be more like a mini review because I don’t have much to say and for the record, I read The Score before I read The Mistake because the lukewarm reviews kind of put me off. And they were right.
I loved The Deal, it left me with a huge book hangover and I still re-read it from time to time, because it was amazing! All the things that worked for The Deal, the humor, the sass, the banter, the romance, the freshness of it was so good, but those elements didn’t work for The Mistake.
Logan has a crush on Hannah from The Deal, his roommate’s and best friend’s girlfriend. They share an apartment and he sleeps next to Garrett’s room, you can totally understand how miserable he is and how awkward it is for all of them to be around each other. That’s pretty much all there is to the story. Logan’s interaction with Garrett and Hannah were a million times better than his romance with Grace. I just didn’t feel it, it was flat and he pretty much has a thing apparently, he creates an image of the girl in his head and falls for that version, did it with Hannah and then insta-loved Grace.
I can’t help but compare the two stories and the voice of the narration. I felt the cliches on this one so much, I literally had to remind myself it was from the same book series. Was it enjoyable? Yeah, kinda. I had high hopes for this one and the story didn’t flow like I thought it would, the romance part felt forced, just to make Logan do something and try to be the boyfriend material and be romantic and just be something else.
I wish there was more to tell but there isn’t. I enjoyed getting into his head and seeing things from his POV but what works for one couple doesn’t work for the other apparently, loved the Garrett and Hannah scenes ♥
