It’s that time of the year again! 2016 has been an eventful year and I’m glad it’s coming to an end to be honest; book wise I read more than I thought I would and I loved less than I did last year and it wasn’t hard picking my ten favorite books of the year. I read a lot of books outside of my go-to genres, YA/NA/Romance etc, and I’ve found a few gems in Fantasy, Thriller and Mystery. I hope my list inspires you to pick a new booky and explore more genres, I know it helped me a lot this year. Also, it’s the first Top 10 under my own domain and I’m so excited – minus the fact that due to laptop issues I’m writing this on my tablet and it’s not easy, at all. Like I said, down to the last day, 2016 is an eventful year.

Unlike other years, this time I’ve also included books that were not published in 2016. Now, I’ll go ahead and fangirl over my favorite reads of the year, see you at the end!

#10 GAMBIT
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
Gambit was a surprise this year. I found it on NetGalley and despite the 4 star rating this debut book combined a lot of elements I loved. Dystopian X-Men setting with a medieval-like background, Gambit is a book I enjoyed reading and re-reading this year and I’m looking forward to the next book!

#9 PAPER PRINCESS
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
Paper Princess was such a captivating read! This book made me love the secondary characters more than the leads and I NEED a book about them. That being said, in the first two books I loved the leads just as much. A debut novel from my favorite duo that I’ll now keep an eye out for more books.

#8 A THOUSAND BOY KISSES
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW

“Maybe we’re like the cherry blossom, Rune. Maybe we loved too much too young and burned so bright that we had to fade out.”

A Thousand Boy Kisses is one of those books you have to be totally spoiler free to read. Sometimes you just want to dive into a story and feel.

#7 THE BIRD AND THE SWORD
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
Every Amy Harmon book is an unforgettable experience. The author’s poetic words, the beautiful setting, unique characters that are so beautifully created, even if Fantasy is not your go-to genre, this is beyond worth it!

#6 THE BEAST
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
IT’S HOLLYWOOD! That’s it, that’s all you need to know, if you’re a fan, you need this. If you’re not familiar with the series there’s a million books to read and you need to read them!

#5 THE BUTTERFLY GARDEN
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
An unforgettable horror novel that gave me a huge book hangover. So wonderfully written with complex plot and characters, it is perfect for Horror fans and readers who don’t enjoy the genre, this will change your mind!

#4 US
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
My boys! Jamie and Wes are a delight to read as always, I love this duos amazing writing. Us was a highly anticipated book and it delivered, do yourselves a favor and read this series!

#3 THE WINTER KING
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
Don’t judge a book by its cover! The Winter King has probably lost a lot of readers due to this cover *shakes head* but it is such an amazing book, I’m talking Game of Thrones level here! Fantasy at it’s best with well written characters and an amazing plot that I loved. Don’t judge it by the cover, you need this book!

#2 CITY OF STRANGERS
AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW
I got CoS because I was in the mood for a Mystery and it was a gem! It took a while to get into it because I don’t read Mystery and I had to get into the setting but once I did, I was hooked. CoS apart from the intriguing plot had the most interesting secondary characters I read this year. They were funny and witty and so complex without taking the spotlight from the lead characters and that’s such a rare thing to have, I just loved it!

#1 AND I DARKEN

AMAZON // GOODREADS // REVIEW

My girl Lada is of course my #1 book of the year. I knew this the moment I read it that I would be in love with this for the rest of the year. This was my first book of the year and I could not have picked a better one to start. Lada is fierce and badass and this is such a clever novel, so beautifully written with historical references and even historical people included; I’ve fangirled about this so much and I will keep on doing it as I wait for the second be. We need more heroines like Lada!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

STEADFAST // Deep, angsty and raw, Steadfast gives you all the feels!

BORN A CRIME // Such an amazing memoir, not to be missed, if you only read one memoir, ever, this is it.

ALL THE UGLY AND WONDERFUL THINGS // Possibly a great example of how to balance more than 20 POVs in a book and tell a complex story without taking any sides.

Have you read any of these? It was pretty easy choosing my top ten books this year and maybe one or more of these will find its way to your TBR lists, I hope you enjoy them if you happen to read any!
