This was so cute, I hadn’t read the previous one but luckily it wasn’t needed to follow the story. Hooking Up is about Amalie who is Ruby’s friend and Lexington who is Bane’s older brother. Amie is at her wedding when the groom gets caught cheating and that completely shutters her world. She doesn’t hesitate and throws herself at the first guy she sees, which also happens to be the groom’s cousin, Lex. When he turns her down because she’s obviously in distress, she doesn’t ask again and instead runs away from him and to her honeymoon in Bora Bora alone.
Of course Lex ends up there for business and the two hook up. When they return things go back to normal because she’s still married but that doesn’t last long. The chemistry between Lex and Amie is off the charts, that guy is so unbelievably good and they fit together perfectly, because Amie is funny as hell but also she’s good without being a pushover and I loved that about her, she was awesome!
I enjoyed the first half of the book more because the second half had a few tiny time jumps and a lot of on and offs with the characters. The first half was packed with action and it had a nice flow. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if Amie’s husband wasn’t such a tool but in a cartoonish way, I haven’t read the previous one so I don’t know if he was always like this, can’t imagine why she would agree to marry him, in this one she really seemed surprised by how different he acted so I wanted it to be a bit more realistic so I could connect more with the characters. But, I love the way Helen Hunting writes, her characters are always funny and over the top and I love them for that!
