Title: The Shadows (Black Dagger Brotherhood #13)
Author: J.R. Ward
Genres: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy
Release Day: March 31st 2015

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on… except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around… but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

4 shadows stars!

I never want to rate a BDB book with less than 5 stars, I did it once with Lover Unleashed and now again with The Shadows.

This book really was all about the Shadows. Usually the BDB books are about more than one couple but that one at a time is “the main” and I’m fine with that, so freaking fine. The Shadows was all about the Shadows, which was a nice story, more than nice actually but after The King this felt so far from the Brotherhood. I need more Brothers, this didn’t even have a full scene with Wrath and Beth, not even a tiny glimpse of LW, nothing. It did involve a good amount of Rhage and Mary which is a taste of  the next book The Beast, the second book about them, and that was a nice touch I had missed Hollywood.

Rhage cleared his throat. “My lord and ruler, Wrath, son of Wrath, blooded father of Wrath, I present you with Throe, Piece of Shit.”

Trez and iAm were fascinating to read. The whole Shadows thing had never been explored in such depth and their world is pretty fucked up to say the least, good story line to read but when you get one book a year, your addiction to the brothers kind of blocks everything else, I found myself slow reading the parts where the Brothers were mentioned and fast pacing the lovey-dovey parts of Selena and Trez.

Selena and Trez… that was definitely different from the rest of the books, kinda glad it didn’t follow the same pattern as the rest of the couples, and I won’t spoil it, but it was definitely different.

iAm’s story was interesting, very much! I liked the brotherly bond between them and I liked how iAm’s story worked out, that was like a train-wreck ready to happen to be honest but he got his HEA and even though a HEA might not always be the same for everyone I liked the way this book ended, it had a real feel to it. Plus iAm is smooth…

He touched the center of his large chest. “I see you in here. I know you… in here. You are very beautiful to me, no matter what you look like.”

Now I’m literally going to try hard not to countdown the days till The Beast, I miss Hollywood (that sassy beautiful SOB) and the small glimpses we got from him and Mary did NOT help one bit, I can only hope that after The Beast we’ll get another book about Zsadist and Bella, what can I say, I have my favorites ♥
