ugly-loveTitle: Ugly Love
Author: Colleen Hoover
Genres: Romance, New Adult
Release Day: August 5th 2014

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

3 stars!

Honestly, I’ve been sitting on this review for days and I still don’t know how to go about it. CoHo is good at making me feel really torn about her books; I didn’t like Hopeless, at all, but I did like Maybe Someday more than I thought I would. With this one, I’m kind of in the middle. So this review will basically be my likes and dislikes.

I liked the story – yes it has been done before and I knew what this was about from the cover and the first chapter and I was totally right, which took some of the fun away from discovering the main character’s heavy background that made him a cold-hearted bastard but Miles was actually an interesting character to read – most of the time anyway – in his view of life, love and friendship in general. Straight forward guy, honest from the start, he could have avoided all the drama if he had the motivation to do what he did at the end of the book from the start but oh well, no one is perfect. I really can’t explain it without spoiling. Bear with me.

What I didn’t like was the poetic-like way CoHo used to emphasize Mile’s feeling during his flashbacks.

Miles’ story was heavy as it was, it didn’t need a different writing style to make me fall for it or even cry when the same word was on repeat like it was trying to drill itself in my mind. I get it as it is, I’ve read countless books, I can read this one too. Thank you.

Tate on the other hand, even with CoHo’s humor, which I’ve found to be very entertaining and indeed that woman has a way with words like very few, as a character Tate was a doormat. Starting a sexual relationship with a guy that tells you he doesn’t do relationships and he will never love you, ever, is one thing but to have those statements shoved in your face every time he rolls off of you and tells you to shut the door on your way out, killing your growing feeling in the process, is a whole other thing. Miles even tells her that he will never love her in front of her brother. I mean, come on… Oh and while I’m at it, if the guy is on top of you after an emotional breakdown/maybe make up sex and he calls you his ex-girlfriend’s name, the last thing you want him to do is keep going and finish it. Just ew and no.

I can certainly say I loved Tate’s brother Corbin! I loved him, he’s really the brotherly type and a man-whorish pilot and if he gets his own book I’ll be thrilled!

Now, like I said, I liked how Miles kind of stood his ground and his way of behaving till the very last minute but what I really was waiting for was that moment when Tate finally got a backbone and kicked his ass to the curb! Freaking finally girl! FINALLY!

And of course CoHo had some pretty awesome quotes.

“If I were capable of loving someone . . . it would be you.”

Anyway, CoHo fans will love it, those who aren’t fans should try it, I know I will be looking forward to her next book, yes I will!
